Ashford University

Ashford University in Iowa is one of the most trusted educational institutions in the Midwest.

Formerly known as Mount St. Claire College and founded in 1919 by the Sisters of St. Francis, Ashford University has been a part of the storied tradition and history of Clinton, Iowa.  For over 90 years, the college has been the school of choice for many residents of Clinton and surrounding communities.

The new millennium brought many changes to Ashford University.  From Mount St. Claire College, the school was renamed the Franciscan University in 2002.  Three years later, the school went back to its original name, Ashford University, after it was acquired by the Bridgepoint Education, Inc.

As a full-fledged university, Ashford offers associate, bachelor, masteral and doctoral programs in the fields of business, education, psychology, social sciences and health sciences.  Significant changes have evolved since the school’s foundation over 90 years ago, but what has not changed is the school’s commitment to provide affordable higher education without sacrificing quality and academic standards.

From a small college serving the educational needs of a small community in Iowa in the early 1900s, the now robust Ashford University has grown into a dynamic institution that continues to play a significant role in the lives of the residents of Iowa and nearby communities.  It has likewise opened its doors to the rest of the world through its Center for External Studies, where students can study and earn degrees even without setting foot on the university’s traditional campus in Clinton.

Ashford University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCAHLC), which ensures that every college within its jurisdiction follows certain minimum quality standards.  Credits earned at one regionally accredited university or college can be readily be moved and credited to another regionally accredited university or college.

Recently, the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) accredited 19 degree programs offered at Ashford University’s College of Business and Professional Studies.  Accreditation from the IACBE is a boost to the university’s efforts to ensure the quality and excellence of its business programs.

Alongside the recent strides bolstering the school’s claim to quality education, Ashford University will continue to focus on providing competitive and affordable tuition compared to other universities of similar stature.

The school provides students with specific and up-to-date price comparisons between Ashford University and several other schools to help them make an enlightened decision.
